It seems like the Conrad store (Ships in Holland, Germany and more lands) sell some pretty cheap LCD's of the brand "Anag Vision". They have KS0066 (or equivalent) controllers. This is a .pdf file I found of one of their LCD's:

My question, are those KS0066's compitable with LCD Smartie (or the Hitachi controller) and can I just wire a parralell cable directly to 'em? Do I need a separate controller or something? Is there something like a PCB to wire it to an USB port? Yeah, I'm pretty new to this, but if those KS0066 work it may be worth stating it on the LCD Smartie home page. Since these LCD's are fairly cheap (?25 for a 16x4 with backlight)

KS0066 (or equivalent) LCD's, will they work?

You say you had a version of a KS0066 LCD which was serial backed. I too beleive that is what I have http://www.microtipsusa.com/product_pdf ... FYHSAY.pdf. So tell me - what serial configuration did you use to make it work I don't seem to be having any luck (so far)

ndutton: the serial backpack I was talking about is my own design as described in another post on this forum, not a built-in serial interface on the module itself.
I had a quick look through the manual you linked to and I think you can use the Seetron display driver, although I don't know if there is any button support in that.
