5.4 Beta Build 3 causing video stutter in PowerDVD

Post by darklight_tr »

After suffering with video stutter in PowerDVD 6 and 7 for the past week I finally discovered the cause; LCD Smartie. Apparently this new version (5.4 Beta Build 3) of LCD Smartie is constantly doing something in the background that upsets PowerDVD. As soon as I close LCD Smartie, the problem stops immediately.

Any idea on the cause of the problem?

I am using the BigNum v2 and MCIS v1.3 plugins. Should I try removing them to see if it is a plugin issue?

Sorry for the delay in replying, but I just found the time to test.

I disabled and removed all plugins from the plugins directory (including the demo plugin), restarted LCD Smartie several times and the video stutter still occurs.

What should I try next?

Try to use the use the default config.ini contained in downloaded package.
Can you roll back to last final release (just for testing)?

I rolled back to v5.3.2 and the problem disappeared. It must be something with v5.4.0 Beta Build 3. I'll just stick with v5.3.2 for now until a new v5.4 release is available.

I reinstalled v5.4 Beta Build 3 and used the default config.ini included in the zip file. The video stutter in PowerDVD returned in full force.

I was able to determine that PowerDVD stutters every time LCD Smartie switches to a different screen.

I forgot to include my display information in my original post. I am using a Matrix Orbital VK-204-24-USB VFD. I made sure I used the Matrix Orbital plugin included with LCD Smartie v5.4 Beta Build 3.

I have since rolled back to v5.3.2, which works great. Did you want me to test anything else?

Sorry for taking you back and forth throught the program versions... :smt102
Have you experienced any "High CPU usage" while changing screens?
Do you have the LCD emulatation enabled (if so try to disable it).
And one more question what type of graphics card do you have?

I don't even know what LCD emulation is, so I can't tell you if it was enabled or not. I'll have to check on that, as well as determining if there is High CPU Usage when LCD Smartie changes screens.

I use a NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GT for my graphics card.

The 5.4 RC2 release is ready which changes some of the behavior when the screen changes as far as the data thread model goes. Would you be willing to test this and see if the CPU loading when the screen changes is less/gone?
