Wiring Issues

Post by backlit »

Hi, I have been having trouble with an LCD I have bought. It is this one here.
The schematic sheet for the LCD I got is as follows:
Pin Purpose
1 DB7
2 DB6
3 DB5
4 DB4
5 DB3
6 DB2
7 DB1
8 DB0
9 Speaker 1
10 Speaker 2
11 Ground
12 5V+
13 LED RED
14 LED Green
15 Switch
16 Enable
17 REG/Select
18 Switch
19 Shield
20 Shield

Now, I followed the 'guide' for wiring it here but I don't think it is right, or am I missing something obvious?

The LCD says on it KEYM1001 and also KEYM1001-02.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.[/url]

I should probably add that all I want to know is how to get the actual LCD to work, not the LED, Buzzer, Switch.
My main question is what goes to what/
I know that the Data bits go to the corresponding ones on the Parallel Port. But where do Enable (16) and REG/Select (17) go. And what is shield (19, 20) for. Thanks.

Try this:

Image

RS goes to 16, E goes to 1, data bits as shown.

Ground = shield for all intents and purposes, so ground that.

Bad new, it doesn't seem to have worked. Maybe its a problem with the way I set up the software. On the instructions page for smartie, an older version of the program is used, so I am a little confused.
I'll run you through what I've done on the computer. The specs first. It is a Core 2 E6300 stock, 1gb DDRII667 RAM, 160gb HDD, Radeon X1950PRO, Gigabyte DS3 motherboard (Parallel Port 378 EPP enabled) and a DVD Burner.
I have installed DL Port I/O (Port 95NT) and extracted smartie 5.4 to a directory, added the winamp spectrum analyser.
I even tried smartie 5.3 with a 'clean' install. Any ideas. Also, on that website for LCDPRoc I supplied where they talk about my LCD, he list the data bit around the other way to the spec sheet I was given. Hope what I said makes sense. Thanks

This is the schematic that works with smartie!

There are many types of connections but this one works with smartie.
