Problems with PalmOrb and Vista 32bit, and serial or usb

I have PalmOrb 1.0, and LcdSmartie 5.3.2 and 5.4.1 and Vista 32bit. I have user account crap turned off, and lcd smartie in xp compatibility mode and a Palm m515. If i try to connect it to the serial mode I get an error "failed to open device: failed to open com1: #5: Access is Denied." If I connect to usb i get " Failed to open device: An USB palm was detected but we failed to connect to PalmOrb. Please ensure palmorb is already running on your palm."

PalmOrb is running and I change the Serial setting depending upon which cradle i am using. I have 2 different palms and it is doing the same thing on either one. Any help out there. I fought to get LCDsmartie running on my xp system at work, but that was a paralell port lcd, not a palm.
