Hiya
I have decided to build my own Media Centre with some spart parts I have kicking around. Lucky for me I have been donated an old D.Vine 3 case with a VFD that plugs into the paralell port.
Athe motherboard and chip were 64bit compatible I decided to run VISTA 64 bit.
This appears to be my problem as I cant get the VFD working, it doesnt light up or anything, I would like to test but cant get the port95nt prog to work or get drivers installed.
I then read the post at http://www.highrez.co.uk/downloads/inpout32/
Is it possible to use LCDSmartie on VISTA 64Bit ? It would seem a shame not to use the 64bit hardware and downgrade to 32bit for the sake of a VFD but it looks strange not doing anything !!
Thanks

As far as I know, nobody has parallel-port LCDs working under 64bit Vista (maybe not even 64bit XP) because there is (or at least was) no certified 64bit parallel port I/O driver for Smartie. There are a few posts on this forum about a 64bit driver. I haven't paid much attention to this since I use a serial (COM) port connection on 32bit OS.
It's worth a try... see if you can get the 64bit driver working for Smartie.
The next-best solution if you're into electronics and microcontrollers is to adapt one of the serial backpack adapter designs to allow you to connect the VFD to a serial port (or USB-serial adapter).
EDIT: You may be in luck... http://forums.lcdsmartie.org/viewtopic.php?t=1722
