font change
I would like to be able to chose my own font. Some of the text and symbols in the current font don't work or look the way I want them to, such as "/".

The problem is not the font.
Is caused from the character set hard coded on your screen.
The simplest solution is to use the "replace" plugin or the "search and replace" plugin and command your screen to use custom characters instead the original ones.
However some limits apply (e.g. 8 custom characters are supported) for more info read the introduction on http://www.lcdsmartie.org There is a section where the the custom characters are described.
