I have built a CarPC which has a USB 20x4 display which uses LCDSmartie... Everything's working just the way I want it to now apart from hibernation renders it completely useless!
The CarPC hibernates whenever the ignition is switched and when it's restored I get LCDSmartie errors and the LCD screen no longer runs until I restart the application!
I want to close LCDSmartie before hibernating and then restart it once it's out of hibernation, running it as a service in windows I guess would be ideal for this situation?
Any ideas? I can't use the constant 5v line because the PSU automatically cuts all power after a set period of time.
Thanks!

What version of LCD Smartie are you using?
The latest beta 5.4.1 fixes an issue where Smartie would get confused coming out of standby/hibernate and fail to initialize the display driver. AFAIK this only applies to COM port connected displays (including USB virtual COM ports I guess), but might be worth a try for other USB displays.

I'm running 5.4.1 at the moment, had hoped it'd fix the issue but no joy.

In Windows 7 I'm using task scheduler to kill LCDSmartie process on entering sleep mode, and to start LCDSmartie again after resume from standby.

Guv, is it only LCD Smartie (and/or the LCD driver - what make/model?) that has problems with hibernate? And do you have the same problem with standby?
I had no issues with standby on my WinXP PC, but recently tried hibernation for the first time and it stuffed up various USB devices (serial adapters, mouse, memory card reader). Tweaking the registry as per http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929734 fixed hibernation USB issues for me.
