Hy i have a problem with an hd44780 compatible lcd, it is 4x20. I made all the connections write, i verified them 4 times. The problem is this: when i connect it to the powersuply it displays the first and the third row(the rectangle 5x7 dots are white), after this i plug the data connectro(paralel) in to the slot and nothing happens. i installed port95nt and lcd smartie is configured write. i made it work one time but after 3 weeks it didn't work(i used the same computer).
Please help, Thanks

Re: hd44780 display problem
You are still using Windows XP or older?
If you changed to Vista or 7 then you must use inpout32 instead of port95nt.
Also, the correct procedure is: connect LCD to computer, power it, start Smartie.

Re: hd44780 display problem
I use WIn 7 x64. I tried it with inpout32.dll but still nothing. I don't have a paralel port on my MB so i bought a pci card that creates an paralel port. i think i have a problem with the adressing of lcdsmartie.

Re: hd44780 display problem
For PCI parallel port cards, you must find the address of the card and put that into the Startup Parameters. Look in Device Manager under Ports, double-click the entry for the parallel/printer port, then look at the Resources tab for the I/O Range. Use the first number as the parameter for Smartie, preceded by a $ sign (eg $9C00).

Re: hd44780 display problem
Thanks for the help! It works now thank you so much! I worked on an Usb to paralel board and now i don't have to make the PCB. I thought it must be something with the I/O, but didn't know what. Thanks again. Nice program!
THanks again.
