YJ-162A works.. =)

Post by Efe »

Hi!

I bought LCD "YJ-162A" from local electronics store and got it working. I think the lcd uses KS0066U controller, and seems to be HD44780 compatible.

It needs a trimmer for contrast, and backlight setting works too with the transistor diagram at the 8-bit wiring page. You'll of course need also a +5v power source. I used a +5,5v source, and LCD works fine. Contrast setting seems to work with ground and Vo connected to the trimmer, the circuit doesn't seem to need the +5v connection for that.

I bought also a nice case for it. See: http://www.kolumbus.fi/tuure.korhonen/YJ-162A.jpg
The transparent front was sold separately, and the inside needed a bit filing for the lcd to fit in, but the case is compact and now lcd fits in and stays in position even without screws or glue! :)

I used a ready made printer cable that I cut and soldered it to old ide-cable, so the cable going to the case isn't too thick and doesn't bend the case to unwanted position.

Thought this information might be handy if someone else wants to connect this particular LCD to a parallel port.. :)
