I purchased usb to lpt cable to connect my 44780 lcd. What should I do in Windows 7 (64 bit) to properly detect my lcd? What should i do in lcd smartie?

This is very unlikely to work. USB-to-LPT cables do not provide the full LPT port functions, they just emulate the basic print functions for Windows.
You need a real LPT port to interface with an LCD. You can get these as a PCI/PCIe card.
The alternative is to use a microcontroller to drive the LCD (home-brew electronics stuff) or try the LCD2USB adapter boards that are available to buy as kits or ready-built. You just wire up an LCD to the LCD2USB board and plug it in... you get a virtual serial (COM) port that Smartie can access. These projects are mentioned on this forum in various places.
