the project is claimes to be open source but i can't find the sources is there any location to find them

Have you tried to access sourceforge?
try to use backup command "rsync -av --delete-delay rsync://lcdsmartie.cvs.sourceforge.net/cvsroot/lcdsmartie/* lcdsmartie-cvsbackup/"

I coudnt get the source code my plan was to rewrite some of the code so that it would be more compatible with windows 7 and 10
