adafruit USB backpack how to install on Ubuntu server.

Post by RaymondDay »

Hi I got this board with a 4x20 LCD and solder it on to it and plug it in to USB and on power up shows some text but than nothing.

Got it from here.

It's on this little server.

root@NanoPi-NEO3:~# uname -a
Linux NanoPi-NEO3 5.10.43 #251 SMP PREEMPT Tue Jul 6 17:20:46 CST 2021 aarch64 aarch64 aarch64 GNU/Linux
root@NanoPi-NEO3:~#

I can see it with this lsusb command.

Bus 003 Device 002: ID 239a:0001 Adafruit Industries

On Adafruit they show how on windows and just link to here LCD Smartie for Linux.

I don't get how to install it.

Is there a apt install LCD_smartie or something like that?

Don't get the question.
LCD Smartie is Windows based program.

You may have to go with lcdproc, I believe that is a linux based "lcd smartie" type program. I remember using it on a Raspberry Pi about 8 years ago and it worked out okay, not as good as smartie, but might get you by. I used it via RS232 though with a custom Arduino backpack I made. I have since retired that Pi and havent touched it in about 6 years LOL. It was for a client's machine, so I don't even have the hardware anymore.
