plans to develop 4 bit mode?

are there any current plans to alter LCD smartie to operate in 4 bit mode for parallel LCDs?

Why is 4 bit mode needed, is that for lazy people who want to connect 4 less wires? :?

I don't think it's that hard to get 4 bit working - my only question is can I test it on a display that is wired for 8 bits? [I'm a hardwarephobe :? ]
