can i skip screen that uses $file() if zero file size/empty

im using $file() to read a file that gets written to from gbpvr that tells what shows are being recorded. id like to skip this screen if the files zero size or empty is there anyway to do this? currently it flashes 20 seconds recording and whats being recording but when nothigns recording its blank for 20 seconds. I tried conditional display but got a bridge error i dont think it could use $file() as parameter. or even read the file and if it says something in it like skip then skip ? or any other ideas ?

ok i think i found my answer. themes and actions may be the key for me. thanks for the cool program..
