Freeze at shutdown of 5.4.1

Post by smokeysteve »

Hi

LCD smartie has worked a treat for me since I found about it yesterday however when I try to shut the program down down it just hangs. The dialog box stays remains visible my PC screen and my LCD blank-screens. After five minutes or so I get the "this program seems to be frozen" screen from windows as shown here.

LCD smartie also freezes if I try to shut down Windows with it running, in this case Windows forces a close.

I have:

LCD smartie 5.4.1
Windows XP SP2
4x20 HD44870 LCD on parallel port -OR- PalmOrb USB to Palm T3

I've hunted around but can't find anyone who has written about this issue which surprises me - any suggestions?

I have the same problem.
( Windows having to end task it on Windows shutdown. )

I *think* it's related to one of the plugins as it only started doing it ( when I added a few plugins ) I'm just not sure which one.

Jason.

Maybe taking out all the plugins and adding one at a time then closing smartie will show you who the culprit is.

Thanks for your comments guys, I've found my culprit - the email check ($Email1, $EmailSub1 or $EmailFrom1). It seemed to be caused by a failed attempt to connect to my mail server (SSL), as removing the server settings stoped the freezing problem.

Some notes incase this isn't your magic fix:
  • I first tried removing the plugin files (no luck there) but then discovered that reducing the screen size (under display settings) to 2 line stopped the freezing. This narrowed the problem down to lines 3 or 4.
  • The freeze occured irrespective of the screen being enabled.
  • The offending tag must not be present at any stage of the session. i.e. when the offending tag is removed, LCDsmartie will still need to be forcibly shut down, but then all subsequent shutdowns go smoothly.
Thanks

I trying all of this and no one works, LCDSmartie freeze at close or at trying to shutdown windows.

I've windows XP SP3 with MatrixOrbital driver (Sony Clie with Palm Orb). I trying different COM speed in lcd smartie and palm orb...I change the usb port in different usbs ports and all the option in palmorb (parity bits, speed, flow control, buffer, refresh time, etc..etc). I have a shutdown message that display OK, but lcdsmartie never close.

I tried the new cesar version without plug-ins but it didn't work.

Anyone can help?

I don't think it's a problem in Smartie. I use myself the MO display driver and Smartie closes and/or shuts down immediately.

Something like happened to me only once when the virtual com driver borked out. I couldn't close Smartie no matter what I did (force, kill task) until I took out the USB cable and all was fine again. I still don't know what caused that problem. The virtual com port is a FTDI chip.

Thanks caesar for the reply!

Yes I have a Virtual COM, it's a sony virtual com driver for the sony clie palm. And yes when I disconnect the usb or close palmorb lcdsmartie close ok. I uninstall all the driver for sony, and reinstall it, but no luck...Is there a solution for this problem? I can help with some tests if you have some ideas you want to probe...

Let me take a look at the MO driver, maybe there is something doable.
(I will need some time for this though)
