HD44780 flickering?

Post by megabyte »

Hello everyone,

Since I've wired my 4x20 HD44780 via parallel, I had no trouble with it. It worked just fine under both lcd4linux and lcdproc for linux. However, when I try to make it work with LCDSmartie, I get this weird symptom:

The characters start to copy themselves in rows, scrolling rows get move by a few characters to the side sometimes, the display is flickery.

I am sure my wiring is correct, since it works fine when I use Linux software (and yes, I am using the Winamp wiring).

I am using Windows XP Pro SP1 (clean install), 3GB of RAM and a Dual-Core Intel C2Duo (this may be the problem, however, limiting the process to run on one core does not appear to fix anything), and I have tried v 5.4, 5.3 and 5.2. All show the same symptoms.

If it is needed, I can upload a quick movie of the problem.

Thanks in advance,
Serge

Please post a movie so we can get an idea of your problem.

In the mean time, try LPT1,5 as startup parameter instead of just LPT1.

I fixed it - I had to turn on EPP instead of SPP for my parallel port in the BIOS config.

Thanks anyway, now I'll be enjoying my LCD on Windows, too!
