Active plugin - Active process and active window info

Post by limbo »

A new plugin is available on my new site www.eServer.gr. Active is a plugin that can simply return info (such window title, thread ID, process name) for the currently active window.

Thanks

And? You might not know it, or you might know it (that makes you littlle bit fool, doing what someone did before, even with less functions?). This just doesn't look like you :|

Hello again mr "JuDGE"
Do you really think that I'm fool to offer on LCD Smartie community? :smt011
Oh that's interesting! and "polite" enough :smt013

For your information the plugins here are OFFERED FREE!
If you don't like them, don't download them!

Let me see what have you offered since now to this community... :smt017 hmmm 30 lousy posts!
Try to write down just a single line of code and offer it to this community and maybe then you will understand more about offering your work to public.

I don't understand why you react like this... I don't think and I never said that you didn't do enough for the comunity. But be honest and tell me, do you think, that creating plugin that doesn't bring any new functions is wise, when there're many good plugin ideas on the forum for years?

I don't have time to argue with you or any other member of this forum and this is not my intention! Especially about my work and my reaction.
FYI:
If you search on forums you will see that some developers have created the very same plugin (try to search on "Everest" term or "Perf" term) and published to their sites or this forums. Maybe some made a simpler plugin or plugin that fits on his needs, maybe someone was not aware about the other plugin excistence.
In any case developers are offering for free their work, which is maybe the most important thing to keep this project alive and help each other.

I will answer to your questions with some of questions too:
Do you think that you are in position (in this forum) to criticize others people work?
Do you think that I'm writing down code and publish my work without any reason, just to spend hours coding and debugging?
Do you think that is it easy to adopt ideas from forum requests and make them real world solutions?
Do you think that every dev should have to justify the reasons made him create a plugin?

If you still don't understand my reaction read your second post again!

Do you think that you are in position (in this forum) to criticize others people work? No, I don't. I think that the way I talk to you is polite. I wasn't incriminating you. I am an assertive person (talking about my 2nd post)

Do you think that I'm writing down code and publish my work without any reason, just to spend hours coding and debugging? I hope you're not. This is what you could reveal to me instead of "And?"

Do you think that is it easy to adopt ideas from forum requests and make them real world solutions? Sometimes when I am looking over source code I see it very simple, but this is probably because I didn't write just a single line of code. (Fact is surely that it's hard)

Do you think that every dev should have to justify the reasons made him create a plugin? No.

I did just noted there's same plugin already out, that's all. Your reaction (And?) was very arogant for me. You're in possition on the forum, and you deserve respect - I am not in conflict with this. My 2nd post was affected by your "And". This wasn't necessary. Instead of that you could simply say why did you create same plugin, although it's not your commitment. Your reaction seems to me still excerssive.

Just because of simple posts like this I left a community/forum.
I was coding a program for them and it took me a few weeks (nights) of my precious life I could have spent with my family or at least sleep.
In return I got a few reactions like this kind that put me off forever.

Smartie is very close to my heart and I don't want this kind of reactions here.
Limbo, please disregard this crap if you can! I'll bake you some cookies

DotA_Player, either use it and thank for it or shut the pie hole and code your own plugins.
You got the wrong person to mess with. And more important: this is not a good way to request plugins!

This forum is not censored in any way but trolls are not welcome. Read this as a warning.

PS: I didn't know what a compiler was when I first run Smartie and assembled my first LCD screen. Then I learned a lot due to this nice community and gave back what little I could and more to come I hope.

I know there's no sense to reply any more. However, I will do it.

Sadly, we're not living in world where everyone smile on each other. I am glad of everyone who helps the comunity, containing both of you. LCDSmartie is program, that is necessary, as well as plugins for smartie are. My 1st post should present my honest and polite opinion. Criticism is not pleasant, but it's necessary for better result. Imagine, that you're not reading this message from me, but from your close friend, and tell me, if you do not agree with it.

I just wanted to say, I don't know, why did you spent time developing this plugin you spent ... But, in my eyes, you could spent it to develop another plugin, that is not already created.

Finally, I want to apologize Limbo, and everyone who found my posts stumbling. That wasn't plan, and I am sorry that it's the result.

Keep doing what you like to, it's the key.

Good bye

You couldn't have said it better yourself:
Sadly, we're not living in world where everyone smile on each other.
Everyone has his personal problems.
Imagine, that you're not reading this message from me, but from your close friend, and tell me, if you do not agree with it.
You can't even begin to imagine what I would reply to a friend
I just wanted to say, I don't know, why did you spent time developing this plugin you spent ... But, in my eyes, you could spent it to develop another plugin, that is not already created.
Maybe he had the code or made it for some other application or he just wanted to see or test how it works. And if it was done he shared it with us.
Heck I could even spend time redoing all of limbo's plugins in Delphi if I feel like it, just because I don't like to have .net installed on a win2k machine.

You either code for fun or because you are paid. If it's for fun then imagine how you would feel if somebody called you a fool.
Finally, I want to apologize Limbo, and everyone who found my posts stumbling. That wasn't plan, and I am sorry that it's the result.
It's very hard to know what another person thinks while reading a very subtle text without some facial expression to give a hint on the intentions. It's a very thin line to cross when communicating this way.
Keep doing what you like to, it's the key.
See, you get the idea :D

PS: there are plugin requests but if I don't use that particular application I can't make a plugin for it and some of those I would not install even if my life depended on it :D

Apart from the argument, i gotta say a few words about this plugin vs the other one (appstate)

Main differences i found out:

+ Appstate returns a 0 when the application is no longer active, meaning more control in actions.
- Appstate uses a lot more CPU. On my C2D E7200 (2,5GHz) LCDsmartie used around 5-8% CPU with appstate.

+ Active uses a lot less CPU, LCDSmartie uses 0-4% now.
- Less control, but still manageble.

I used to have actions like these when i used appstate:

If $dll(AppState,1,Demigod_ForgedAlliance__Tqit_war3_iw4mp,) = 1 Then GotoScreen(5)
If $dll(AppState,1,Demigod_ForgedAlliance__Tqit_war3_iw4mp,) = 0 Then NextScreen

Nowadays i use
If $dll(Active,3, , ) = Demigod Then GotoScreen(5)
If $dll(Active,3, , ) = ForgedAlliance Then GotoScreen(5)
If $dll(Active,3, , ) = Tqit Then GotoScreen(5)
etc.
If $dll(Active,3, , ) = explorer Then NextScreen
If $dll(Active,3, , ) = firefox Then NextScreen

This means more actions, but not as complex ones. So for me, and apparently the CPU, this is easier (if i want to add a game i just add an action instead of edit the big one). The bad thing with this is that i had to remove actions for my winampscreen because i often use winamp while i play games and that switches away from screen 5 to screen 3. Basically, any action after the switch to screen 5 will change screen and it wont switch back to screen 5 unless you can come up with some complex new action for it (screen 5 displays temperatures, so it's pretty important it stays on the display). SInce screen 5 has to be sticky, i must add actions for explorer and perhaps firefox to move away from screen 5 when i quit the game.

For me the choice is easy. I take the Active plugin any day as i need CPU power when i play games. But for other people which has other demands, maybe appstate is worth the cost.

People say it's never late to say you are sorry.

I am sorry Limbo for the argument we had here.

Nowadays I am facing this problem more often day by day. I choose wrong words and then even when I do not intend to offend anybody, final effect is what happened above. I incorrectly estimate my positions and then choose wrong selection of words.

Once again, I am sorry.

Good luck
Hynek
