Help - driver and lcdsmartie installed but nothing on lcd sc

Hello - I made a min-itx computer with a clear plexi-glas case; the case I selected came with a 16x2 lcd screen, that plugs into USB, and software for driver and lcdsmartie.

once plugged in, the screen was reading 'lcd 16X2" or something like that - so I know the lcd screen is plugged in.
I got the driver installed per directions, and the device manager says everything is fine - driver is current and device is working.
I installed lcdsmartie and it open up in the computer, and it shows all kinds of stuff in the windows program (win 7 home 64bit) but not on the lcd display.

the lcd screen is lit up . it is 2x16, green background.

in lcdsmartie, I selected lcd screen size as 2x16, and followed directions that came with the computer to select display plug-in as LCD2USB.dll

--The LCD screen does not show anything now, but it is lit up / illuminated. No characters, just a green screen.

Please help - I have never set one of these up before. What do I do? Thanks!

It seem that the contrast is not set.
Check if the is a trimmer available for this.
You must see black bars during power up in most LCDs

if it's a regular 16 pin 16x2 LCD then I suggest you use crystal.dll
