Big numbers for the imon

Post by Pleng2006 »

The imon LCD doesn't seem to support the bignum plugin... all I get is a couple of shaded bars instead of the required numbers.... does anybody know how to get this working?

Sorry, but the iMON display doesn't support using custom characters. I've been bugging their developers to add this functionality, but so far I've been given the cold shoulder.

As an iMON user, try dropping them a line. If enough of their customers bug them maybe they'll add it. (The display supports it, it's a Noritake VFD, their backpack firmware just doesn't export this functionality).

Would it be possible to use a genric Noritake driver?

Well, it would work, but you'd have to disassemble the display and remove their backpack electronics, and make a parallel cable. You could then use the HD44780 driver.

Probably easier to get a different display.

I'm hoping to get iMON to eventually pay enough attention to this shortcoming in their "most advanced IR receiver and VFD display device in the market" and play catchup and add this functionality that every other display already has. (Quote from their marketing website).

I agree with Mike. It's a fault of IMON for not supporting it in their display driver hardware/firmware. Our best bet (I have one too) is to push Imon to do the right thing. Mike at least got the ball rolling on that one for us too.

Since imon doesn't support custom characters, it cannot support plugings using the custom characters to display info.
Plugins like this are:
Winamp analyser
Tinybar
Big Numbers
Big Characters
Picture
and more
